Blay Whitby is a technology ethicist and philosopher, specialising in computer
science, artificial intelligence and robotics. He is the author of many
books and papers including: Artificial Intelligence: Beginners' Guide
and Reflections on Artificial Intelligence: The Legal, Moral and Ethical
Dimensions and is concerned with the importance of widening engagement
in science and increasing levels of debate in ethical issues. Blay recently
became a member of the Strategic Ethics Forum of the BCS.
He currently lectures at The University of Sussex, leading a number of courses
including: Technical Communication Skills, Introduction
to Cognitive Science, Ethical Issues in Computing and
Research Ethics. He is also deeply involved in several Art/Science
collaborative projects involving technology ethics, health and gender issues.
A keen pilot, he is fascinated by the relationship of Human/Computer Interfaces
and aviation and researches this through both practical and theoretical
means.
