Welcome
to the Sussex Branch of BCS
– The Chartered Institute for IT. With over 70,000 members, BCS is the world's leading industry
body for IT professionals.
It is with deep regret that the BCS Sussex branch announces
the sad loss of Roy Newell
at the age of 82. Roy was a founder member of the British Computer
Society and of our branch, as well as several other organisations.
Remarkably he had served continuously on our committee since
this branch was established in 1967, demonstrating his inimitable
passion and dedication to promote BCS interests at both local
and national levels.
Roy died on Saturday 24th July following a cardiac arrest
after suffering a stroke earlier this year. The funeral service
will be held on Wednesday 4th August at 1pm at the Sacred Heart Church,
39 Norton Road, Hove BN3 3BF.
The BCS Sussex branch committee would like to express its sincere
condolences to Roy's family and friends at this time. Roy will
be sadly missed by everyone involved with our branch committee,
both past and present.
Roy Newell 1927–2010
What do we do?
Our goal is to promote the local IT industry and support those working
in it. We arrange a variety of professional and social activities
each year. As well as our regular programme of talks, we organise
functions and award student
prizes.
Our public talks cover a wide range of computer-related topics. They
are free and offer a great opportunity to network with IT professionals.
Our meetings are usually held at the University
of Sussex.
To learn more about us, you can read
a message from our chairman, see our latest
newsletter, or simply explore our website.
How to get involved
Why not come along to our next
event? You can enjoy a talk, take part in lively discussions and
meet people who share a similar interest. You could even join
our committee and help shape the future.
We are a friendly group and we welcome fresh ideas. Let us know if
you have any comments or suggestions about this site or our branch.
You can share your thoughts with any member of the branch
committee.
